Game Arrivals: Feb. 18th - 21st

Come in and check out this week's game arrivals. In this week include:

 New Game
Gùgōng
TMG/Game Brewer

New from game designer, Andreas Steding (Firenze, Hansa Teutonica) is Gùgōng a euro strategy game for 1 - 5 players. It is set during the Ming Dynasty.
Gùgōng is worker placement where your hand of cards, are in a sense, the workers you use to take your actions and are the heart of the game.  These action cards are numbered from one to nine to indicate it's strength.  Some of these cards will have additional abilities.  The central game board has 7 different regions from which you will take your actions.  These regions consist of
  • Travel - gain tokens that provide immediate and future benefits.
  • Jade Market - collect to gain end of game VP's.
  • Great Wall - build with servants to gain Intrigue benefits.
  • Intrigue - grants benefits for Great Wall participation, also an end of game tie breaker.
  • Palace - your envoy must reach the top level in order to be eligible to win the game.
  • Decrees - provide start of round, ongoing, and end of game benefits.
  • Grand Canal - use ships to send one of your servants on a journey to gain permanent rewards.
Gùgōng
A game consists of 4 rounds with 3 phases to each round.  You will play a card from your hand to a region. Based on it's numerical value to the card that is already in this location it will determine the action(s) you will take. The key element of the game is in managing your hand of cards. When you play a card to a region you are basically exchanging a card from your hand with the one in that region. If yours is numerically higher, you perform the action of that region plus any that may be on your card. If your played card is lower then you have lesser options.  You have a limited number of servants that can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your actions. You not only need to optimize your actions for VP's but build your hand for future plays.  The player whose envoy reaches the top level in the Palace and has the most victory points wins.

K2
Rebel/ Asmodee

K2 now is back in stock after being missing in action for quite awhile.  Each player manages 2 climbers to reach the top of the mountain and survive not only the climb up, but also the descent. The climbers start at a a base camp where they can rest and acclimatize.  On their turn players will use a variety of movement cards and acclimatization cards.  Sections of the mountain are harder to climb and require more movement points to progress.  The lowest elevations allow climbers to gain acclimatization points.  The higher climbers go on the mountain the more acclimatization points are required to be there.  Each climber carries a tent that can be pitched to provide shelter not only for themselves but also for their climbing team member which in turn will save them valuable acclimatization points.
